  • You Will Need
    • 1 pkg. seasoning mix (included)
    • 1 pkg. vegetable mix (included)
    • 1 pkg. dumpling mix (included)
    • 4 cups chicken broth
    • 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (about 3½ lbs.)
    • 2 cups whole milk (divided)
    • 2 Tbsp. cold butter, cut into pea-sized pieces
  • My dumplings are not cooking through! What happen?
It is important to dry the dumpling dough in the slow cookier quickly. If the lid is off the slow cooker too long, heat is lost and will take longer to build up again (enough to steam the dumplings). Continue to cook the dumplings until they are cooked through, removing the lid only to check on them every 10 minutes or so.
  • I only have low-sodium chicken broth. Will that work?
Yes, you can use low-sodium chicken broth as a substitute for regular chicken broth. If you find the end result a bit bland, throw a pinch of salt in to boost the flavor.
  • I don’t use whole milk. Can I use fat-free/1%/2%?
Yes, you can use these lower fat milks as a substitute.
  • I don’t have any chicken broth. What can I use as an alternative?
Chicken bouillon cube(s) can be used as a substitute; refer to manufacturer’s instructions for how to hydrate to the amount of liquid required in this recipe (4 cups). You could also use water, but the flavor will be negatively impacted.
  • I don’t drink cow’s milk. Can I use soy/almond/rice/other?
We do not recommend using non-dairy milk substitutes in this recipe.
  • Can I use chicken with bones in and skin on?
At a minimum, the chicken skin should be removed to prevent too much fat in the dish. Bone-in chicken is fine but carefully removes the bones before serving.
  • Can I use chicken breasts instead of chicken thighs?
Yes, you can use any combination of white and dark meat for this recipe; just try to use about 3 ½ lbs. total.
