    Picked this up because I was so tired of what was being offered on the shelves and this was a new one to my grocery story. It was fantastic. In fact, we're having it again this week because everyone enjoyed it so much. Tonight, though, I will not add the noodles but serve it over garlic mashed potatoes. Considering we're here in Maine and it hasn't been above 10 degrees and 5 days and we've had 40 plus inches of snow in 10 days, this has turned into our comfort food.

    Used 8 oz pkg egg noodles and added 1 cup of water with noodles to increase sauce size. Also only had a cheap Merlot in house. But I am Queen of the family now if I make this once a week now!i

  • You Will Need
    • 1 pkg. seasoning mix (included)
    • 1 pkg. vegetable mix (included)
    • 1 pkg. pasta (included)
    • 3¼ cups beef broth
    • 2½ lbs. beef stew meat, cut into 1½-inch cubes
    • 1½ cups Burgundy wine (or other red wine)
    • 2 cups fresh-sliced mushrooms
    • 1 pkg. (14oz.) frozen pearl onions, thawed (optional)
  • What kind of beef should be used for this?
    Any good beef stew meat is appropriate. You don’t need a high-end or fancy cut; the long cook time will make even the toughest beef very tender. Ground beef is not recommended.
  • My pasta was not cooked after the stated 25 minute cook time? Why?
    Different slow cookers cook and keep temperatures differently. If your pasta is not done at 25 minutes, let it cook for 10-15 minutes longer, making sure to keep the lid on as much as possible to hold in the heat.
  • I don’t have or can’t find pearl onions. What else can I use?
    You can cut up a fresh medium-sized onion into large chunks and add at the beginning or middle of the cooking time.
  • I don’t have Burgundy wine. What other wine(s) would you suggest I use?
    Any good deep red wine will work in this recipe, such as a Cabernet Sauvignon or Chianti. Stay away from “spicy” reds like Shiraz or some Malbecs.
  • I don’t have any beef broth. What can I use as an alternative?
    Beef bouillon cube(s) can be used as a substitute; refer to manufacturer’s instructions for how to hydrate to the amount of liquid required in this recipe (3 ¼ cups). You could also use water, but the flavor will be negatively impacted.
  • I don’t cook with wine. What else can I use instead?
    You can replace the wine with an equal amount of water. Do not increase the broth, as this will make the meal too salty.
